When does a sewer line need repair instead of cleaning?
When the same main-line backup keeps returning after the line is cleared, the pipe itself is often the cause — roots growing through joints, a cracked or broken section, an offset joint, or a low spot that holds waste. Sonlight repairs the line under the house and in the crawl space. When the damage is underground in the yard or under a slab, that work is not offered by Sonlight yet; Sonlight can refer you to a trusted local company, and you work with them directly.

How a visit works
Honest, straightforward, and no pressure — here is how Sonlight approaches every job.
You tell us what's happening
Share the problem and what you're seeing — by phone, text, the request form, or Book Online.
We assess it in person
We look at the actual problem in your home — not a guess over the phone — so the plan fits what is really going on.
We explain your options
You get clear options and honest recommendations before any work begins. No pressure, no surprises.
You decide
You choose what is right for your home, and the work gets done properly.
Sewer work starts with finding where the problem actually is. If the line is backed up, it is cleared first; the written price then names the repair and the section of pipe involved. If digging or camera work is needed, you hear that up front, with a referral if you want one.
Sewer line repair follows the same written-price process in Kennewick, Pasco, Richland and across the Tri-Cities. See all service areas → Questions? Contact Sonlight Plumbing →
Where a drain problem can sit
A single slow sink and a backup that affects the whole house are usually different problems. Where the restriction sits changes what the job involves.
- At one fixtureWhen only a single sink, tub, or shower drains slowly, the restriction is often close to that fixture. Other drains in the home usually still work normally.
- In a branch line several fixtures shareWhen two or more fixtures in the same area act up together, the restriction may sit where those drains join.
- At the cleanoutAn access point that lets the main line be inspected and cleared without going through a fixture.
- In the main line leaving the houseWhen the lowest drains back up, or several fixtures are affected at once, the main line may need to be evaluated. Root intrusion, buildup, bellies, and pipe damage are possible causes.
Simplified layout shown for orientation. Actual drain routing varies by home and age of the plumbing. Where the restriction sits is confirmed on site, not from symptoms alone.

Repair or replace?
When the problem is one section — a single break, an offset joint, or one place where roots get in — repairing that section is often the practical fix. When damage shows up along much of the line, or older pipe keeps failing in new places, replacing it is usually the better long-term choice. The written price explains which one is recommended and why.

Before any digging
What Happens Before Underground Sewer Work
Utility locates
Washington law (RCW 19.122) requires a call to 811 at least two business days before excavation, including boring, and utility-owned lines such as gas, power and water are marked. Privately owned lines on the property, like a line to a detached garage or sprinkler lines, are not marked by 811 and are located separately.
Permits
Sewer line repair and replacement generally require a permit and inspection from the city or county. If the repair reaches the street or right-of-way, the city requires a separate right-of-way permit. For the work Sonlight does, the requirements for your address are confirmed and included in the written price; underground and right-of-way work is handled by the company you are referred to. See Tri-Cities plumbing permits.
Which part of the line is yours
Where your responsibility ends is set by the city. Sonlight's written price covers only the part of the line Sonlight repairs.
